Powering What’s Next: A Conversation with Tuomas Kiikka and Minna Grönholm on Premix’s Expanding Energy Business
We sat down with Tuomas Kiikka, Head of the Energy Segment and Co-owner, and Minna Grönholm, Premix’s newly appointed Business Development Manager for Energy, to discuss what’s ahead.
As the global energy landscape evolves, cable manufacturers are seeking materials that enable reliable, future-ready, and sustainable power networks. With Minna Grönholm joining the Energy Segment, the launch of new medium- and high-voltage products, and strong industry partnerships, Premix is entering a new phase of growth.
Tuomas, why is this such an exciting moment for Premix’s Energy business?
Tuomas
The energy industry is in full transformation. Cable manufacturers are under pressure to deliver more efficient, more sustainable, and more reliable solutions than ever before. This is exactly where Premix materials fit.
Premix has been developing electrically conductive compounds for four decades, and we can offer cable makers stable, high-quality, locally supported solutions. Our new products, the PRE-ELEC® Semiconductive Jacket CC7101 & CC7102, have been developed specifically for the new generation of medium- and high-voltage cable designs and for meeting global IEC/HD requirements.
Minna, what excites you most about stepping into this new role in the Energy segment?
Minna
For the past three years, I’ve worked closely with Nordic customers at Premix, and I’ve seen firsthand how much companies value reliability, supply security, and technical partnership. Being able to bring that customer perspective, supported by Premix’s long history and innovation capabilities, into a high-growth segment is very inspiring.
The Energy sector is changing so quickly. Customers want not just a material supplier, but a partner who understands long-term performance, standards compliance, and sustainability. I’m excited to help our customers with the right future-proof material choices.

What makes the new PRE-ELEC® Semiconductive Jacket CC7101 & CC7102 so relevant for today’s cable manufacturers?
Tuomas
The real strength of the new PRE-ELEC® semiconductive jackets is how easily they integrate into existing production. They process smoothly without major adjustments, which helps manufacturers maintain efficiency and quality. We’ve also focused heavily on the stability of the electrical properties and the surface quality, both of which are essential for medium- and high-voltage applications. These compounds offer consistent resistivity, excellent durability, and long-term performance.
Minna
Manufacturers appreciate that the materials work well whether they’re used as a full jacket or as a thin conductive layer. That design flexibility fits the different cable concepts we see in the market right now.
Premix recently announced collaborations with LyondellBasell and Maillefer. How do these partnerships benefit customers?
Tuomas
Partnership is core to how we innovate. LyondellBasell brings polymer expertise and scale, while Maillefer brings world-class extrusion process know-how. When we combine their strengths with Premix’s specialty conductive compounds, customers get complete, reliable solutions.
Premix will co-exhibit with LyondellBasell at Wire 2026, showcasing the shared vision for future cable materials.
Minna
Customers appreciate that we aren’t an isolated materials supplier but come with a broader ecosystem of support, testing, and technical guidance. We are excited to co-exhibit with LyondellBasell at Wire 2026, showcasing our shared vision for future cable materials.
What can customers expect from Premix going forward?
Minna
A customer-first approach. We want to make our customers’ lives easier by offering stable materials, local contract manufacturing for supply security, and responsive technical support. That hasn’t changed, but now we’re bringing that philosophy into a growing, strategically important segment.
Tuomas
Customers can expect more innovation, more collaboration, and a stronger focus on sustainable material solutions. We are developing products that support recyclability, long service life, and lower environmental impact while meeting the performance demands of medium-, high-, and extra-high-voltage cable production. And we look forward to meeting many customers at Wire 2026 to share what’s next.
