Safe, Reliable Materials for ATEX & EX Environments

Prevent sparks. Protect lives.

Premix conductive plastics enable safe performance in explosive atmospheres by helping end products comply with ATEX and EX directives. While raw materials themselves cannot be ATEX certified, they play a critical role in ensuring that the final certified products meet the stringent safety requirements for use in potentially explosive environments.

Built for Safety. Proven in Practice.

In ATEX and EX-classified zones, safety is not optional—it’s engineered into every component. Premix’s electrically conductive plastic compounds are specifically designed to prevent static buildup that could trigger sparks and explosions.

With decades of experience, we help you replace metal with safe, conductive plastic that meets the highest performance and compliance standards.

Why Choose Premix?

Static Dissipation You Can Trust

Our PRE-ELEC® compounds ensure permanent reliable static discharge, critical for preventing ignition in explosive atmospheres.

Consistent Quality, Every Batch

With tightly controlled manufacturing and testing, you can count on dependable conductivity and mechanical performance.

Design Freedom Without Compromise

From complex geometries to thin-walled parts, our materials enable lightweight, corrosion-resistant designs that replace metal—without losing safety.

Proven in Demanding Applications

Used globally in fuel systems, electronic housings, and industrial equipment operating in EX environments.

Use Case: Fuel Systems in Automotive and Industrial Applications

The Challenge

Plastic fuel systems—commonly made from HDPE—are lightweight and corrosion-resistant, but inherently non-conductive. During fueling, two major safety risks can occur:

  • Electrostatic Discharge from the User
As the user approaches the fuel filler neck, static charges (e.g., from dry clothing or ambient conditions) can discharge at the moment of contact—creating a dangerous spark near fuel vapors.
  • Charge Build-up Inside the Filler Pipe
Friction caused by swirling fuel flow against the inner wall of the pipe (especially on dry surfaces) can accumulate static electricity, increasing the explosion risk.

Applications

Films

Used in linings, inner layers, and wrapping applications, conductive films help control static build-up in environments where flexibility is key — such as in cleanrooms, packaging, or barrier layers inside containers.

Cans & Bins

Plastic bins, drums, and cans made with Premix compounds are used for transporting and storing volatile substances. Their built-in conductivity helps prevent spark generation during filling, emptying, or transport.

Filaments & Tapes (e.g., for FIBCs)

Used in Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBCs), conductive filaments and grounding tapes are essential for dissipating static charges during filling and discharging of powdered or granular substances.

Rigid Pipes

Conductive plastic pipes are vital in systems carrying flammable or explosive media. They ensure grounding and minimize ESD risks in both stationary and mobile setups, including chemical processing and fuel handling.

Regulatory Compliance You Can Rely On

Premix’s conductive materials are engineered to support compliance in ATEX and EX environments.

We help you meet the following safety and quality standards:
  ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU
For equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
  IEC/EN 60079 Series
International standards for equipment in explosive gas atmospheres.
Automotive Industry Requirements (e.g., for fuel filler systems)
Our compounds are used in components that comply with OEM-specific standards for ESD safety in fuel systems.
