Premix uses only renewable electricity

News from Premix | June 7, 2023

Since the beginning of the year 2023, Premix has been using only renewably produced electricity at its Rajamäki production plant and office. The energy is produced at Vattenfall's Nordic Hydropower stations.

Hydroelectric power creates no direct emissions that have an impact on the climate or the environment throughout its production phase. However, there are emissions from a life cycle perspective, e.g., related to building and maintaining of power plants. In order to keep track of these emissions, Vattenfall has carried out Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) for more than 20 years. The LCA approach helps set priorities by identifying where environmental impacts arise and where measures must be applied to reduce them. These LCAs have been refined over the years, and Vattenfall can now offer its customers a more detailed analysis of its environmental impact in the form of an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).

An EPD is based on a life cycle assessment according to international standards (ISO 14025, 14040, and 14044) and offers information per kWh generated electricity.
